James Spilling

James studied violin and singing at Manchester University before going to the Royal Academy of Music to do a postgraduate year on the Musical Theatre Course. Since then he has been involved in Musical Theatre both on the West End and nationally appearing in Man of La Mancha, Chess, Sweeney Todd, The Woman in White, The Phantom of The Opera, Vanity Fair, Killing Rasputin, No Way to Treat A Lady.

James has also sung for numerous radio broadcasts and has appeared in many of the country’s leading concert halls both as a soloist and as a backing singer performing music by Cole Porter, Rodgers And Hammerstein, Leonard Bernstein, Jerry Herman, Anthony Newley, Andrew Lloyd Webber. He has also been involved in many recordings from artists’ albums including Michael Ball, Sarah Brightman, Gilbert O’ Sullivan, Paul Potts, to backing for Lesley Garrett concerts , X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent ,and soundtracks to Killzone 2, The Phantom of The opera, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

As a keen jazz and cabaret singer he has also taken part in public masterclasses with Cleo Laine and Barbara Cook , and as a songwriter, James is currently working on a new album of big band jazz
