Annie Skates: Director

Annie’s colourful singing career spans concert, television, musical theatre, film and album recording work, and she is also a sought-after vocal coach and arranger.She is probably best known for her role as vocal coach for Simon Cowell's winning team on ITV's 'The X Factor'. As a singer she appears regularly on TV and in concert and her arrangements can be heard on numerous chart albums and singles.

Annie has worked as vocal expert for Simon Cowell’s team on ‘The X Factor’, and on ‘Popstars’, ‘Celebrity Stars in Their Eyes’ and ‘This is My Moment’. She has sung and arranged the backing vocals on ‘The X Factor’, ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, ‘How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria’, ‘Grease is the Word’, ‘Any Dream Will Do’, ‘I’d Do Anything’ and ‘Eurovision’, and also wrote the arrangements for ‘Last Choir Standing’, ‘America’s Got Talent’, ‘You’re The Ones That We Want’ (USA), and ‘Finding Maria’ (Canada).

As a solo artist Annie sang at the opening of St Pancras International with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, for the launch of the P&O ship ‘Ventura’ at Southampton, and for a series of Cole Porter Celebration concerts with the BSO. She performed in ‘Sassy, Brassy Broadway’ with Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra and ‘Symphonic 70’s’ with the Performing Arts Symphony Orchestra.

She has appeared internationally in ‘The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber’ and ‘The Magic of Broadway’ and has toured Australia and the UK with Michael Ball, Elaine Paige and Michael Crawford. Annie has most recently starred in Abba Symphonic concerts with The Guildford Philharmonic Orchestra and with the
Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

She has worked live and in the studio with artists including Robbie Williams, Beyonce, Elton John, Lionel Richie, Annie Lennox, The Bee Gees, LeAnn Rimes, Ronan Keating, Lesley Garrett, Brian McFadden, Gloria Estefan, Eternal, Cliff Richard, Diana Ross, Will Young, A1, Gareth Gates, Atomic Kitten, Madonna, Al Jarreau and Jose Carreras.

Annie has also provided vocals for film soundtracks that include ‘Phantom of the Opera’, ‘Entrapment’ and  ‘Nine’, musical theatre, ‘Cats’, ‘Grease’ and ‘Hair’, and commercials such as McDonalds and Capital Radio.
